Sekhar is the artistic director and guru of Kala Kruthi. She is an
internationally and nationally acclaimed Carnatic artiste, and has given
a number of concerts and lecdems in Australia and around the world. Smt
Sekhar's dedicated tutelage and training under some of Carnatic music’s
greatest exponents, such as Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt DK Pattammal, Sangeetha
Kalanidhi Sri DK Jayaraman, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri RK Srikantan, Sangeetha
Kalanidhi Sri KS Narayanaswamy, and Sangeetha Kala Acharya Sri Bombay S Ramachandran, is
evident in her refined musical style and technical excellence with its
adherence to the traditional precepts of this venerable art form.
Smt Sekhar is also an accomplished veena player, having imbibed the
rudiments of this ancient Indian instrument from her grandmother, the
late Lakshmi Bai Ammal, and her mother, Mangalam Muthuswamy, a
distinguished veena player and noted instructor at the Shanmukhananda Music
School in Mumbai, India.
Smt Sekhar is also a foreign correspondent of Sruti, India's premier music and dance magazine.
Recently, she was presented the "Natya Choodamani Award 2005 " for her valuable vocal music contribution to Dance by Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy of Indian Dance on September 25, 2005. She was also presented with the "Arumuga Navalar Award" for the Distinguished Services Rendered to the Tamil Community of Victoria, Australia by the Tamil Society of Melbourne on June 11, 2005.
